Mark your calendars as Saturday, March 17, 2018 is St. Patrick’s Day! Take part in the honoring of the most prominent patron saint of Ireland as D.C. hosts a variety of activities throughout the month of March.
St. Patrick’s Day, although not a public holiday, is a nationwide celebration of the Irish and Irish American culture. The day is celebrated by the capital and other states by hosting a variety of parades, various festivals, eating and drinking of Irish cuisine and Irish lagers, and most notably, by wearing the characteristic green attire.

Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade – March 11, 2018
Known as the annual Nation’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, this two-and-a-half-hour special event has marching bands, colorful floats, pipe bands, and military police, and fire department marches. Bringing everyone together to celebrate the Irish culture, this parade is a must-visit event.
Alexandria Saint Patrick’s Day Parade – March 3, 2018
A fun-filled family event, this celebration will feature a St. Patrick’s Day parade, along with a classic car show and a dog show. The Irish Ambassador, military commanders, local celebrities, local scouts, and high school bands will be in attendance.
Annapolis Saint Patrick’s Day Parade – March 10, 2018
Featuring more than 90 floats (!), this parade will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Historic Annapolis. It will include music, Irish food, an Irish Coffee Competition, and much more.
Gaithersburg Saint Patrick’s Day Parade – March 10, 2018
This St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be hosted at the Rio Washingtonian Center at the City of Gaithersburg. The parade will showcase Irish dancers, pipe bands, Gaithersburg Police, an equestrian show, fire trucks, and more exciting activities.
Manassas Saint Patrick’s Day Parade – March 10, 2018
Held at the City of Manassas in Old Town, this St. Patrick’s Day Parade will feature local bands such as the Irish Dance Group, Washington Scottish Pipe and Drum, the Northern Virginia Firefighters Emerald Society Pipe and Drum, the Marine Corps Color Guard, Fairfax County Sheriff’s Coalition Pipe and Drum, and other groups.
National Shamrock Fest – March 17, 2018
The biggest and most fun-filled St. Patrick’s Day party in the area, the Shamrock Fest is an event attended by hundreds of people. It features Irish food, drinks, and other fun-filled activities, along with showcasing craft vendors, carnival rides and games, and so much more. It also features more than 30 DJs and bands on five stages.
